The Turlock Police Department released body camera video Thursday of an incident that began as a report of a suspicious person and ended with an officer shooting the suspect.On the video, officers are heard saying the suspect had a weapon before he appears to raise an object over his head and move toward one of the officers, prompting one of them to fire their gun. The object was later determined to be a black piece of plastic, according to the police department.The police shooting happened around 5 a.m. on April 10 on Vermont Avenue between West Avenue and South Soderquist Road.The police department said officers were responding to a call about a suspicious person who was looking into vehicles. That’s when officers encountered 37-year-old Corey Pollard, the police department said. Officers ordered Pollard to put his hands up but he hid behind an SUV before he jumped on top of the vehicle.The police department said one officer tried to return to her vehicle to get her K9 and then the suspect advanced towards her with his arm raised, holding the object.The other officer fired one round, hitting Pollard in the right shoulder, according to the police department.After he was shot, Pollard lay on the ground and was placed under arrest.Pollard was treated at a local hospital. He is charged with resisting arrest and assault on a peace officer.The police department said there will be three independent investigations of the incident, as is standard with officer-involved shootings.
