Thieves nab $30K worth of snow crab in Philadelphia heist, police say

An investigation is underway after thousands of dollars worth of snow crab was stolen from a freightliner truck in Philadelphia last week. It happened outside a Walmart in the Philadelphia Mills Shopping Center. WPVI reports the truck’s driver was assaulted as he tried to stop the thieves. The suspects made off with crabs from a refrigerated trailer.”It was Grandpa Harvey’s snow crabs, like two pallets, approximately 100 boxes. It was valued at $30,000,” Capt. Jack Ryan of the Philadelphia Police Department said. Police said there were up to 12 people and 4 vehicles involved in the heist. WPVI reports the driver was treated at the scene.The station reports there have been several instances of major cargo thefts in the area of late. Police say if any truck drivers find themselves in a similar situation, the best advice is to not intervene and call 911.
