A 19-year-old Sutter man was arrested after shooting at friends who were pulling up to his driveway for a bonfire during a case of mistaken identity, the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office said. Deputies with the sheriff’s office and California Highway Patrol who responded to a report of shots fired Saturday at 11:54 p.m. determined the incident happened at a residence on Schroeder Road. The two victims said they were invited to their friend’s home for a bonfire and had no idea why they were shot at. They were unhurt but their car’s back window was shot out, the sheriff’s office said. The home’s resident, 19-year-old Brian Ray Shoquist, admitted shooting at his friends but said he thought they were someone else, the sheriff’s office said. He said he had been in an earlier altercation at the Marysville Raceway where someone else had threatened him. That’s whose car he thought was pulling up to his driveway when he fired his weapon. Shoquist was booked into Sutter County Jail for charges that include attempted homicide. Bail was set at $500,000 and he’s due in court on April 30.See more coverage of top California stories here | Download our app.
