SACRAMENTO, Calif — A 16-year-old and 17-year-old were arrested for a carjacking that happened not long after a deadly shooting at a Sacramento Regional Light Rail Station from March 21.
The Sacramento Police Department said the teenagers were booked into Juvenile Hall for felony carjacking warrants.
The carjacking happened after the deadly shooting, which took place at the University and 65th Street station. Police previously said the carjacking and shooting were connected. However, at this time, a spokesperson can only confirm the teens were arrested for carjacking warrants.
Police previously said the carjacking suspects ditched the stolen car in a Sacramento State University parking lot near the American River and ran down the levee.
The light rail shooting claimed the life of Levell Murphy, 25. Police said he was found shot and ultimately died from his injuries at the scene. Two other people were taken to the hospital.
A police spokesperson said the two teens are also suspects in the homicide, and the homicide case will be presented to the district attorney’s office for filing. Police said they had enough evidence to arrest them for the carjacking, however, it’ll be up to the district attorney’s office whether to charge them with homicide after they present the case.
