Female composers highlighted

Dr. Grace Lee will perform a piano recital of works composed by women May 18 at 1 p.m. at Sunnyvale United Methodist Church, located at 535 Old San Francisco Road.

Lee will play pieces by Amy Beach, Margaret Bonds, Gabriela Lena Frank and Jean Ahn. Beach holds the distinction of being one of the earliest American composers to achieve recognition without formal training in Europe. Bonds was among the first African American composers to gain recognition in the United States. Gabriela Lena Frank and Jean Ahn are composers from the Bay Area.

Lee recently relocated to the Bay Area after working a staff accompanist at Northern Kentucky University and as a teacher at the University of Cincinnati’s Communiversity Program.

Admission to the recital is free. For more information, email Lee at gracelee8128@gmail.com.
