Search underway in San Joaquin River for missing person after boat capsizes

SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY, Calif. — A search is underway for a missing person after a boat capsized in the San Joaquin River near Lathrop Thursday.

The San Joaquin Sheriff’s Office said a boat capsized around 5 a.m. and deputies responded to reports of a missing boater near Loop River Road between Caravel Court and Richardson Road. The sheriff’s office said there were two people in the boat when it capsized.

One person made it out of the river but the other person didn’t. The sheriff’s office said neither person was wearing a life jacket.

It’s unclear how the boat capsized.
