San Francisco man dies in crash involving big rig on SB I-5 near Lerdo Hwy

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A man is dead after a crash two-vehicle crash on southbound Highway I-5, according to CHP.

The crash happened near the Lerdo Highway offramp just after 3:30 a.m. Monday. Video from the scene shows several emergency responders on the scene.

According to officials, the 25-year-old San Francisco man was heading southbound on I-5, north of Lerdo Highway when he crashed into a Volvo semi-truck that was parked on the right shoulder.

The driver sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The 24 and 26-year-old passengers in the vehicle were transported to Kern Medical with major and minor injuries, CHP said.

The 24-year-old passenger was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash, according to CHP.

The crash remains under investigation.
