At least two people were injured in a crash in Sacramento on Sunday night that happened after a vehicle pursuit, police said. The Sacramento Police Department said officers responded to reports of a stolen vehicle on Northgate Boulevard and San Juan Road around 5:07 p.m. According to police, as officers got behind the vehicle it accelerated away and a chase began. The officers eventually placed the pursuit in surveillance mode and stopped chasing the stolen vehicle, police said. Several minutes later a helicopter was flying above the vehicle as it veered off the eastbound Interstate 80 on-ramp at El Camino and hit a tree. According to police, the driver and front seat passenger exited the vehicle and tried to run from the scene but were detained. The two passengers in the back seat were both taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police said all four people in the vehicle were juveniles. The driver, a juvenile male, is in custody for three felony charges related to the pursuit and the stolen vehicle.
