Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley coordinated more than 400 volunteers to perform home maintenance and repairs at 18 project sites across Santa Clara County. Rebuilding Together is sending volunteers to four more project sites on May 3.

Last year, Rebuilding Together performed repairs on over 285 low-income homes and nonprofit facilities. On average, 15% of these repairs are completed by volunteers.

Zoning ordinance update

The Milpitas Planning Department recently released revised public drafts of the proposed new Business Park Research and Development (BPRD) and Metro Area zones, as well as proposed changes to the citywide zoning map. This work represents the first phase of the city’s comprehensive zoning ordinance update project.

The BPRD Zone focuses on encouraging research and development, advanced manufacturing and other high-tech industries in the southwestern portion of Milpitas, south of Highway 237 and west of Interstate 880. The Metro Area Zones encourage high-density, mixed use, transit- and pedestrian-oriented development in the vicinity of the Milpitas Transit Center, BART station and Great Mall.

Community members can review and provide feedback on the draft work products, which are available for download in the “Project Documents” section of https://www.milpitaszoningupdate.org/resources.

The planning department anticipates bringing the draft zoning ordinance and map changes to public hearings this spring. Tentative hearing dates are set for the May 22 planning commission and June 4 city council meetings.
