HAYWARD, Calif. – Police in Hayward say a person of interest, who fled from police, entered a home that was not theirs on Tuesday.

A police spokesperson said negotiators were sent to the scene to try to get the person to come out from the home near Olympic Avenue and Chance Street.

KTVU first learned of the situation at around 5 p.m.

By 6:30 p.m. Hayward police peacefully took the person into custody.

Police said the unidentified person was of interest in connection to a shooting. A gun was discovered on the premises, but it’s unclear if it was the person of interest’s gun.

The family who lives in the home that was surrounded managed to escape when the person of interest arrived.
