The “Adventure Begins at Your Library” this summer with the Santa Clara County Library District’s Summer Reading Program, running through July 31 at the district’s branch libraries, including the Milpitas Library.
Participants of all ages can earn a prize for reading five books and completing an activity. Librarians have created booklists including Summer Reads for Adults, Adventures for Teens, Easy Readers for Kids and Picture Books for Kids.
Free summer library programs include guided hikes at Coyote Lake and Piccetti Ranch, creative writing workshops, drawing classes, photography workshops, special talks and performances.
According to the California Library Association, summer reading programs help children and teens retain and enhance their reading skills when they’re not in school. Great Mall Milpitas is among more than 90 outlets in the the United States and Canada commemorating National Outlet Shopping Day on June 8-9, when more than 100 retailers will offer shoppers savings.
