HAYWARD — A 22-year-old Hayward man who was hit by a vehicle while riding a scooter earlier this month has died from his injuries, authorities said.

The fatal collision happened about 4:45 p.m. on May 8 near the intersection of Mission Boulevard and Orchard Avenue. The man died two days later.

Authorities identified him as Sai Gollapalli.

It was the fourth fatal collision in Hayward this year.

The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene and spoke with police. He is a 36-year-old Hayward resident. Police did not make an arrest and said they do not believe drugs or alcohol were involved in the wreck.

Gollapalli was unresponsive when police and medics arrived. An ambulance took him to a hospital, where he died.
