ANTIOCH — Authorities will wait for an autopsy to determine what happened to a man found dead on a sidewalk early Wednesday, police said.

Officers responded about 7:20 a.m. to the 2200 block of Country Hills Drive to assist Contra Costa County Fire Protection District crews after reports there was a man down on the sidewalk and in possible need of medical attention, according to a statement from Acting Lt. Matthew Koch.

Koch said the man was dead when police arrived.

Authorities did not identify him Wednesday, pending notification of the man’s relatives.

Police have turned the case over to Crime Scene Investigators and detectives with their violent crime unit but did not classify the crime as a homicide. They did classify it as a suspicious death.

Police are asking anyone who may have been driving through the area on Tuesday night or Wednesday morning and who has dash cam video to contact Det. John Cox at 925-481-8147 or jcox@antiochca.gov.
