An 80-year-old man reported being attacked, knocked down and kicked in the head Thursday morning.

FOLSOM, Calif. — A man was arrested and accused of elder abuse after a five-hour standoff with law enforcement Thursday morning in Folsom, police said.

Around 8:15 a.m., an 80-year-old man reported being attacked, knocked down and kicked in the head on Corrigan Court near Livermore Community Park, according to a Folsom Police Department news release. The man suffered minor injuries and was treated at the hospital, police said.

Officers said identified Nashad Nisham Hamedeh, 31, of Folsom, as the suspect and located him inside his house. He allegedly refused to come out and threatened to shoot police, the department said.

SWAT and crisis negotiations teams were called, and they determined Hamedeh appeared to arm himself with various weapons including firearms, the release said.

Suspected firearms later turned out to be replica firearms, the release said.

Around 1:30 p.m., officers deployed tear gas, and Hamedeh subsequently surrendered, police said.

Officers booked Hamedeh into Sacramento County Main Jail, and he faces charges including battery, elder abuse and resisting police, the department said.

He faces an additional probation violation charge, police said. It is unclear why Hamedeh was on probation.
