A man is dead following a single-vehicle crash that occurred in Riverside County.

Authorities say the fatal crash happened around 2:25 a.m. on May 11 near the intersection of Monroe Street and Airport Boulevard in the city of La Quinta.

When first responders arrived, they located a Kia sedan that came to a rest upside down on the sidewalk. Emergency crews could not extract the driver from the flipped-over vehicle, and he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The victim has been identified as 27-year-old David Seth Gonzales, a resident of Cathedral City.

Deputies say the preliminary investigation reveals that Gonzales was traveling southbound on Monroe Street, and failed to stop at the stop sign at Airport Boulevard. The victim lost control of the vehicle, hit the curb, and then struck two trees before coming to a stop.

It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact Deputy I. Ramirez of the Thermal Sheriff’s Station’s La Quinta Traffic Team at 760-863–8990 or call anonymously at 760-341-7867 and reference incident #LA241320005.
