A life-or-death situation in Maryland ended in an act of bravery.A Bel Air, Maryland, woman is recovering from a gunshot wound after she was attacked during a pre-dawn home invasion on Wednesday. She’s alive, in part, because of Mike Clark’s actions. He told sister station WBAL that he didn’t think, he just reacted. With a little luck, his bravery and quick actions saved her life and the use of a drone led to the capture of a suspect.Clark told WBAL he responded to some kind of commotion in the breezeway of the home he shares with his partner of 20 years.”I came running through the door and she was standing here with her hands up. All I could see was a pistol to the back of her head. While he had the gun to her head, the only things he said to her (was), ‘If you scream, I will kill you,'” Clark said.He said the man was wearing a full mask and dark clothing.”All I could see was (part) of his face,” Clark said. “By the time I realized there was a gun to her head and what was going on, I just busted through the door and attacked. I wasn’t thinking, I was reacting. I don’t even know what came over me.”Video below: Man describes home invasion and his brave responseClark explained what happened next.”He was standing here and I attacked him and he went out the door. When he went out the door, all I could see was those flames coming out of his gun, and I don’t know how I’m still here,” Clark told WBAL. “I think the bullet ricocheted, then hit her, just from the angle. He took off. I got her back into the house. Within five minutes, the sheriff’s office was here, and I swear in another five minutes, they had a drone in the air.”Witnesses told deputies they saw a man wearing black from head to toe running behind a convenience store. Harford County Sheriff Jeff Gahler said a drone with night-vision capabilities was able to direct deputies and immediately take Joshua Brewster, 31, of North East, Maryland, safely into custody.”We happened to have one of the deputies responding to the call for service. He is also one of the drone operators. The drone was in his vehicle with him, and he was in the area to immediately pull up and deploy it,” Gahler said.Clark said while his partner suffered a graze wound about 5 inches long, she is going to be OK.”My family is traumatized,” Clark said. “I broke down afterwards. (I) can’t believe what happened. Seeing a gun held to her head was just traumatizing.”Authorities said Brewster has a long criminal history, and they believe he broke into another house in the same neighborhood just hours earlier. Brewster waived his right to a bail review and remains in jail without bond.Bel Air is around 27.5 miles outside of Baltimore.
