COMPTON — A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department dog was shot by a suspect in Compton on Wednesday evening with its bulletproof vest absorbing the gunshot.

KCAL reported that deputies responded to the 100 block of East Spruce Street, near Willowbrook Avenue, searching for an unidentified suspect for unspecified reasons.

The suspect emerged from where they were hiding, then shot at the dog that was assisting deputies in their search for the suspect, according to KCAL.

The dog was taken to an animal hospital, where it was reported to be stable.

Deputies later arrested the suspect.
