Juul fans should be aware of the latest information about lung injuries associated with vaping and e-cigarette use. Thousands of cases of lung injury have been reported to the Centers for Disease Control as of the end of October 2019. Every state except Alaska has reported cases of lung injuries associated with vaping and electronic cigarette use. You can contact a California Juul lawsuit attorney if you are concerned that you might have been injured after using Juul products.

Juul Injuries and Deaths Continue to Increase

As of October 29, 2019 (information is updated every Thursday), 1,888 cases of lung injury have been reported to the CDC. Thirty-seven people have died from lung injuries related to vaping and e-cigarettes. More deaths are currently under investigation. California reported between 100 and 149 cases as of October 29.

The reported cases involve a variety of brands of vaping and e-cigarette products. New cases continue to be reported and investigated. As of right now, the FDA nor the CDC has identified the cause of lung injuries in the reported cases. There are some similarities reported, but a conclusive cause has not yet been determined.

The CDC recommends that individuals avoid using electronic cigarettes and vaping products, especially products that contain THC or are purchased from “off the street.” The CDC also cautions against adding any substances to vaping products or modifying any e-cigarette or vaping products.

Signs and Symptoms of Lung Injuries Associated with Juul and Other Vaping Products

If you continue to use Juul, vaping, or e-cigarette products or you have used the products in the past, it is wise to know the signs and symptoms associated with the lung injuries. Because each person is unique, you might or might not experience the same or similar symptoms to another person. However, common signs and symptoms of the lung illness reported in many of the cases include:

  • Shortness of breath
  • Cough
  • Chest pain
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Chills
  • Fever
  • Weight loss

Some individuals experienced symptoms within a few days of using Juul or other products. However, other cases include individuals who did not have symptoms for several weeks. If you believe you might have sustained a lung injury or other injury from vaping products or e-cigarette use, seek immediate medical attention.

Who is Responsible for Vaping Lung Injuries?

Until a cause of the lung injuries is determined, it is difficult to know if one or more parties might be liable for damages caused by the injuries. However, if the manufacturer is responsible because of a defective product or dangerous product, it might be held liable for the injuries and associated damages under a product liability claim.

The best step someone can take who believes there have been injured by an e-cigarette, Juul, or vaping product is to contact a product liability lawyer immediately.
