“It tears my heart out “: Arden comic book store burglarized twice in less than a week

NOW FACING A LOSS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. IT DESTROYED US. WHAT FAITH YOU HAVE IN PEOPLE WHEN YOU SEE SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAPPEN IN LESS THAN A WEEK, DAVE DOWNEY’S COMIC BOOK STORE IN SACRAMENTO COUNTY WAS BURGLARIZED TWICE BY SOME REAL LIVE BAD GUYS. IT TEARS MY HEART OUT BECAUSE I LOVE THIS BUSINESS AND I LOVE THE PEOPLE AROUND HERE. BUT THINGS LIKE THIS, IT’S JUST SUCH A SETBACK. SURVEILLANCE VIDEO SHOWS THE MOMENT A MAN BREAKS THE GLASS DOOR WITH A ROCK EARLY THURSDAY MORNING, LESS THAN TEN MINUTES AFTER HE ENTERS THE STORE, HE LEAVES WITH A SACK FULL OF MERCHANDISE. HE HAD A SACK WITH HIM, SO HE STARTED FILLING UP THE SACK AND WAS ABLE TO GET AWAY WITH A WHOLE BUNCH OF STUFF. THE FIRST BREAK IN HAPPENED EARLY SUNDAY MORNING. DOWNEY SAYS THE TWO BURGLARIES ADD UP TO A LOSS OF AROUND $5,000 FOR HIS BUSINESS. THAT PIECE. OF GLASS RIGHT THERE ON THE DOOR COST ME $500, AND WE HAD A NEW ONE PUT IN ON MONDAY. AND THEN TWO DAYS LATER ON WEDNESDAY, IT’S SMASHED. AND I’M I’M BACK TO SQUARE ONE. SACRAMENTO SHERIFF’S IS NOW INVESTIGATING, OFFICIALS CONFIRMED TO KCRA THREE THEY BELIEVE THE TWO BREAK-INS COULD BE RELATED IN. THE MEANTIME, DOWNEY IS ADDING MORE SECURITY. I-80. SO THIS IS GOING TO, UM, BE AN EXTRA BARRIER THAT ANYONE THINKING THEY CAN BREAK INTO THIS PLACE FOR SOME FREE STUFF IS GOING TO HAVE TO PUT INTO CONSIDERATION. DOWNEY DOESN’T KNOW HOW LONG IT WILL TAKE HIM TO RECOVER FROM THE ECONOMIC LOSS, BUT SAYS HE’S GRATEFUL TO HAVE SUPPORT FROM HIS CUSTOMERS, WHO ARE HIS HEROES. For the second time in less than a week, an Arden comic book store was burglarized early Thursday morning. The break-ins happened at World’s Best Comics and Toys on Watt Avenue near El Camino Avenue.The owner, Dave Downey, said thousands of dollars’ worth of collectibles were stolen.“Things like this are a setback,” Downey said. Surveillance video showed the moment a man broke the glass door with a rock and entered the store. In less than 10 minutes, he leaves with a sack full of merchandise. “That piece of glass right there on the door cost me $500,” Downey said. “We had a new one put in on Monday, and two days later, it’s smashed, and I’m back to square one.”He said the two break-ins total a loss of around $5,000 for his business. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the burglaries and confirmed to KCRA 3 they believe both incidents could be related.
