The historic Jim-Denny’s diner in downtown Sacramento was burglarized for the fourth time in seven months on Tuesday morning. “I am so frustrated, and I am exhausted,” said the owner N’Gina Guyton. “This is where people say I just don’t want to do it anymore.”Guyton said the first time it happened was just days after she reopened the diner in September of last year. “Somebody broke in and took the cash register,” said Guyton. In Tuesday’s incident, a video shows the moment a woman breaks the glass door and enters the restaurant located on 12th Street. Seconds later, two officers on bicycles pass by. According to the police department, those officers were responding to a separate call nearby. “The lack of police protection and just being visible in the space is frustrating,” said Guyton. Sacramento police arrested 35-year-old Chelsea Payne in connection to Tuesday’s break-in. Guyton said nothing was stolen, but she was left with the financial burden. “I’m barely making it right now. I am barely being able to pay my employees and then this happens, and it’s another setback,” said Guyton. Guyton has now taken multiple steps to increase security in her restaurant like installing alarms, hiring private security and even going cashless. However, Guyton and other small business owners in the area told KCRA 3 they need more support and protection from police and city officials. In a statement, Sacramento Police said it will continue to monitor the needs of the community and “reallocate as needed”.KCRA 3 also contacted the Mayor’s office for comment, but he wasn’t able to respond due to Tuesday’s city council meeting.
