WE BEGIN WITH BREAKING NEWS. TIME RIGHT NOW IS 530. WELCOME BACK. WE ARE FOLLOWING SOME BREAKING NEWS OUT THERE ON THE ROADS. COULD BE ONE OF THOSE DAYS. WE’VE GOT ANOTHER FIRE, BRIAN. THIS ONE IS SOUTH OF ELK GROVE. YEAH, THIS IS GOING TO BE AT HIGHWAY 99 AND ESSINGER ROAD. IT’S RIGHT UNDER THE FREEWAY. YOU CAN SEE HERE. AND FIRE CREWS DID JUST ARRIVE ON SCENE. I WATCH THEM. THIS IS AN ELEVATED PORTION OF THE FREEWAY. SO LET’S SAY THAT FIRST, AS THE FIRE IS DOWN ON THE GROUND UNDERNEATH THIS ELEVATED PORTION OF THE FREEWAY AT ESSINGER ROAD, AND YOU CAN SEE THAT CARS ARE STILL MAKING THEIR WAY THROUGH THAT AREA, ALTHOUGH A LITTLE SLOW ON THE NORTHBOUND SIDE OF 99. BUT I DID SEE THE FIRE TRUCKS COME IN UNDER THE BRIDGE AND THEY’VE ARRIVED ON SCENE AND ALREADY STARTING TO SEE A CHANGE IN THE COLOR OF THE SMOKE. IT WAS A LITTLE BIT MORE BROWN, A LITTLE BIT DARKER BLACKS AND BROWNS IN THERE. NOW WE’RE STARTING TO SEE SOME MORE WHITE SMOKE, INDICATING THAT THEY’RE GETTING SOME WATER ON THAT. YOU CAN STILL SEE SOME OF THE ACTIVE FIRE RIGHT HERE. THERE WAS A PRETTY GOOD LITTLE FIRE LINE BURNING ALL ALONG THIS AREA HERE, BUT AGAIN, DIDN’T APPEAR TO BE THREATENING THE FREEWAY AS AGAIN, THAT IS AN ELEVATED PORTION OF THE FREEWAY. AND YOU CAN SEE BY THE SMOKE IT IS JUST KIND OF GENTLY RISING UP, NOT BEING PUSHED BY ANY WIND. SO THAT’S CERTAINLY A GOOD FACTOR FOR FIRE CREWS OUT THERE IN THIS WARM PART OF THE MORNING, AS THEY KNOCK THIS MOST RECENT GRASS FIRE DOWN HERE ALONG 99 AT ESSINGER ROAD. BUT AGAIN, FROM A TRAFFIC STANDPOINT, TRAFFIC STILL GETTING THROUGH THERE. AND ONCE YOU GET PAST ALL THAT FROM ELK GROVE INTO DOWNTOWN, NO PROBLEMS THERE COMING IN AND I-5 ALSO LOOKING GOOD THERE ON THE ELK GROVE COMMUTE INTO DOWNTOWN SACRAMENTO. IN TERMS OF THE WESTBOUND RIDE, 1580, NO PROBLEMS THERE ACROSS THE TOP AND OUT ONTO THE CAUSEWAY, ALL IS CLEAR. HERE’S A LOOK THROUGH STOCKTON. YOU’RE ENJOYING A NICE RIDE THIS MORNING. UNLESS YOU’RE HEADING NORTH DOWN TRYING TO GET UP 99. EXPECT SOME DELAYS THERE. 50 A TEN MINUTE RIDE OUT OF RANCHO CORDOVA, 80 OUT OF
