Two Glendale residents died in an apparent murder-suicide in an unincorporated area of Riverside County, authorities said Sunday.

Around 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Riverside County Sheriff’s dispatch was notified by the Glendale Police Department that two people had threatened suicide and were possibly in the area of Cajalco Road and La Sierra Avenue, near Lake Mathews, in a rural area south of Riverside.

Deputies went to the area and found Matthew Haze,  54, and Naomi Haneji-Haze, 53, both of Glendale, dead in a vehicle, the Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.

“At this time, this incident is being investigated as a murder/suicide,” said the release.

After the bodies were found Sunday morning, the Lake Mathews Sheriff’s Station advised on social media: “Lake Mathews station has a significant presence on Cajalco for an active investigation. Cajalco between La Sierra and Lake Mathews will be closed for several hours. There is no threat to the public.”

Cajalco later reopened.

Further details were not immediately released.

Anyone with information on the deaths can contact Investigator N. Jones of the sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit at 951–955–2777 or Investigator J. Negrete of the Lake Mathews Sheriff’s Station at 951–272–5600.

Anyone contemplating suicide, or knowing of such a person, can obtain help by calling 988 or the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1 (800) 273-TALK (8255).
