FOLLOWING RIGHT NOW. CREWS ARE ON THE SCENE OF A VEGETATION FIRE ON FOLSOM BOULEVARD IN SACRAMENTO, KCRA 3’S. BRITTANY. HOPE JUST ARRIVED ON SCENE. BRITTANY, WHAT? DO YOU SEE? WHAT’S HAPPENING THERE? YEAH, THIS IS AN OPEN AREA. AND AT THIS POINT, A LOT OF THE FIRE HAS GOTTEN TO THESE TREES. SO WE HAVE OUR HELMETS ON JUST TO BE SAFE BECAUSE WE STARTED TO SEE SOME OF THEM FALL OVER. YOU CAN SEE JUST BEHIND THIS FENCE HERE, THIS WAS A MASSIVE HOMELESS ENCAMPMENT. FIRE OFFICIALS TELL ME THAT THE FIRE STARTED INSIDE THIS HOMELESS ENCAMPMENT. THEY’RE NOT SURE EXACTLY WHAT STARTED THE FIRE, BUT YOU CAN SEE PLENTY OF PEOPLE WERE HERE. WE SEE A LOT OF CANS ON THE GROUND, A LOT OF TENTS, SHOPPING CARTS. THERE’S EVEN STILL SOME FLAMES THAT ARE RIGHT ALONG THE GROUND THERE AND BURNING. SO IT’S STILL REALLY, REALLY SMOKY OUT HERE. IF YOU LOOK OUT IN THE DISTANCE TO THAT HOMELESS ENCAMPMENT JUST CONTINUES AS YOU WRAP AROUND THIS HIGH RIDGE OVER THE EMBANKMENT. SO A LOT OF PEOPLE WERE LIVING HERE. WE CAN TELL YOU THE LATEST UPDATE FROM FIRE OFFICIALS IS THAT THIS GREW TO SEVEN ACRES. SO THERE’S A LOT OF MOP UP THAT THEY HAVE TO DO. BUT THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT THE FIRE IS FULLY UNDER CONTROL AT THIS POINT. IT’S JUST A FEW FOLKS HERE ON THE GROUND USING THE HOSE TO GET OUT THOSE SMALLER FLAMES THAT YOU WERE JUST SEEING. BUT THIS IS, AGAIN, SOMETHING THAT COULD HAVE HAD A REAL IMPACT TO INFRASTRUCTURE UP ABOVE. IF WE LOOK UP, THIS IS WHERE ALL OF THE POWER LINES ARE FOR THIS AREA. WE’RE NOT TOO FAR FROM THE HOSPITAL. WE’RE NOT TOO FAR FROM SAC STATE EITHER. SO A LOT OF THESE POWER LINES ARE CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE WITH THE WINDS, THOUGH, PUSHING IT THIS DIRECTION. LUCKILY, THE FIRE DIDN’T MAKE IT HERE TO THE POWER LINES OR TO THE RAILROAD. IT’S REALLY ALL BEHIND THIS FENCE. WE ASKED IF WE KNOW HOW MANY PEOPLE WERE LIVING HERE WITH THIS ENCAMPMENT. FIRE OFFICIALS SAID THAT THEY WEREN’T SURE. THEY SAID WHEN CREWS SHOWED UP WHEN THE FIRE WAS HERE, A LOT OF THE FOLKS WHO LIVE BEHIND THIS FENCE HAD ALREADY RUN AWAY. SO AT THIS POINT, WE DON’T HAVE ANY WORD ON ANY SORT OF INJURIES. I CAN TELL YOU WE CAN REALLY SMELL SOME OF THE FUELS AND DIFFERENT CHEMICALS THAT ARE BURNING. YOU CAN SEE ALL OF THOSE SHOPPING CARTS. WE’RE NOT TOO FAR AWAY FROM THE SAFEWAY. THERE’S EVEN SOME BICYCLES HERE. SO THE FOLKS WHO DID LIVE HERE, THEY THERE’S DEFINITELY A LOT OF LOSS. WE DO EXPECT CREWS TO STILL BE OUT HERE FOR A WHILE LONGER. AGAIN, WITH THESE POWERFUL WINDS THAT WE’RE EXPERIENCING TODAY IN THIS TRIPLE DIGIT TEMPERATURES, WE KNOW IT JUST TAKES ONE GUST TO REIGNITE THAT. SO THEY’RE GOING TO SATURATE THIS AND KEEP CREWS HERE TO MAKE SURE THAT ALL OF THOSE SMALLER FIRES ARE PUT OUT. BUT AGAIN SEVEN ACRES IT’S GOING TO TAKE A WHILE. WE’RE LIVE IN SACRAMENTO BRITTANY HOPE, KCRA THREE NEWS YEAH, WE’RE JUS
