Flight out of Stockton crashes in Southern California, killing pilot

A flight that took off from Stockton crashed in a mountain area in San Bernadino County, according to the National Transportation Safety Board. The crash happened on Saturday around 8:21 p.m.The San Bernadino County Sheriff’s Office said the pilot, who was the sole occupant on board, died in the crash. He was identified as 35-year-old Blake Broadbent, a resident of Riverside.Officials said witnesses reported hearing a plane sputter before a loud crash, followed by seeing a red flash. Rescue crews were not able to search for the plane until the next day, because the mountain area was not accessible by vehicle or foot.
