CONCORD — A middle school-aged girl escaped without physical injuries Wednesday after a man  grabbed her arm while also trying to open the door to a parked car, police said.

The girl fought off the man, and notified school staff and police, according to a statement from Concord police. Police held off on calling the incident an attempted kidnapping, instead calling it a “suspicious circumstance.”

The encounter happened in the area of Nuala Street and Dartmouth Way about 7:10 a.m., police said.

Police continue to look for a suspect. They did not have a detailed description of him but said the car associated with the incident was a black sedan.

Investigators also are looking at surveillance video and talking with people in the neighborhood.

Police asked anyone with information on the incident to contact Det. Stephanie Wilkens at 925-603-5858.
