A driver had to be hoisted after a car plummeted about 200 feet down a hillside in the San Gabriel Mountains near Glendora Monday morning.

The incident was reported around 1 a.m. on Glendora Mountain Road near mile marker 6.2.

Two people were inside a vehicle that went off the road and down into some heavy vegetation, Los Angeles County Fire Department Battalion Chief Steve Cabrera said.

One of the occupants managed to climb back up the hill, flag down help and let them know that their friend was still trapped inside the vehicle.

“Our firefighters were lowered down on a rope system and they were able to take all their tools for extrication and also for patient care,” Cabrera said.

Rescuers managed to get to the driver, who was then hoisted up by helicopter and taken to a hospital.

The condition of the unidentified driver was unknown.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
