Driver arrested on suspicion of DUI and fatal hit-and-run in Sacramento County

A driver involved in a hit-and-run crash involving three vehicles that killed one person in Sacramento County was arrested on suspicion of DUI, the California Highway Patrol said. On May 7, at approximately 9:20 p.m., a Ford Ranger rear-ended a Ram 1500 that was traveling westbound on Elverta Road west of Antelope, causing the Ram to end up in the eastbound lane of Elverta Road, CHP said. A Ford F150 that was traveling eastbound on Elverta failed to stop and collided with the Ram. The driver of the F150 then fled the scene, traveling eastbound, CHP said. Officers found the suspected vehicle traveling southbound on Watt Avenue at Elverta Road.Upon inspecting the vehicle’s damage, the driver admitted to being involved in the earlier crash, CHP said. The driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI and hit-and-run.The driver of the Ford Ranger was pronounced dead on the scene.The east and westbound lanes of Elverta Road at Dominion Way were blocked for about an hour.
