Dre Greenlaw named recipient of 2024 Dwight Clark Award

SANTA CLARA, Calif — What do Arik Armstead, George Kittle and Fred Warner all have in common? Other than playing for the 49ers, all three were recipients of the prestigious Dwight Clark Award. and this Thursday, another 49ers player will add their name to this exclusive fraternity of greatness.

The Dwight Clark award is named after the late 49ers tight end, and it has been given annually — since 2021 — to the current player who best exemplifies Clark’s spirt of teamwork and camaraderie. 

This year’s recipient is none other than 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw. This past season, Greenlaw racked up 120 tackles, while terrorizing defenses alongside fellow linebacker Fred Warner. 

Greenlaw will be presented the award this Thursday at the Dwight Clark Legacy Series, which will feature a roundtable discussion with 49ers quarterbacks of past and present. This includes Steve Young, Jeff Garcia, Alex Smith and Brock Purdy. 

“It’s an amazing award that carries his legacy, so for Dre Greenlaw to get recognized for it is unbelievable,” said former 49ers quarterback Alex Smith. “Dre’s a guy that… as an analyst and fan of football, this guy jumps off the screen. The passion he plays with. That’s what it’s all about. He has a great story.”

The 4th annual Dwight Clark Legacy Series will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at the California Theatre in San Jose. Th event starts at 7 p.m.
