Dr. Cyril Wecht, a former Allegheny County medical examiner and renowned forensic pathologist known for his work on cases such as the JFK assassination and JonBenet Ramsey, died Monday. The Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts announced Wecht’s death Monday morning.

Wecht was born in Pittsburgh in 1931 and raised in Bobtown, McKees Rocks and the Lower Hill District. He earned medical and law degrees at the University of Pittsburgh and also served in the U.S. Air Force before beginning his career in forensic pathology.

Pittsburgh sister station WTAE spoke with Wecht last fall in one of his final televised interviews, as he talked about his longstanding career and dedication to finding the truth.
