A nighttime dance party that Disneyland fans hoped would be a cocktail-infused rave – but turned out to be more of a kids-centric crowd participation show – has closed two months early after a brief run during Pixar Fest.

The Club Pixar disc jockeys and dancers will no longer be presented during Pixar Fest after evaluating guest feedback and operational considerations, according to Disneyland officials.

Club Pixar dancers were notified that the Sunday, June 2 show in the Hollywood Land backlot at Disney California Adventure would be their final performance, according to MiceChat.

The Club Pixar live show debuted on April 26 as part of Pixar Fest and was scheduled to run through the end of the seasonal event on Aug. 4.

Disneyland promised the Club Pixar dance party would feature DJ music, live shows and Pixar-themed games, food and drinks – leading fans to anticipate something like the Mad T Party and ElecTRONica dance parties that have filled DCA’s Hollywood backlot in the past.

Instead, Pixar Fest attendees were treated to something closer to the “Disney Junior Dance Party” aimed at a grade school audience with watch-and-learn country line dancing lessons themed to Woody and Jessie from “Toy Story.”

Other live shows on the Club Pixar stage took an interpretive dance approach tied to “Inside Out” and “Wall-E” – intended more to be watched and enjoyed rather than serve as fuel for a rave-like dance party.

“What everyone was hoping for was the return of a true dance party, but this was more of a periodic show where you were invited to dance along,” according to MiceChat. “It just didn’t resonate with guests and now it’s done.”

Disney California Adventure will continue to offer Pixar-themed games, movies, photo opportunities, food and beverages from 4:30-8:30 p.m. daily in the Hollywood Land backlot during Pixar Fest.

“The Pixar Fest dance party was aimed at the wrong audience,” according to MiceChat. “The show was too lame for teens and adults and too late for kids.”

The Pixar Fest food festival has suffered from a similar problem – with kids-centric food that doesn’t appeal to an adult crowd.

Disneyland has not yet announced what – if anything – will replace the Club Pixar live show throughout the remaining run of Pixar Fest.
