Crews were battling three separate fires around the same area in San Jose Sunday evening, officials said.

The fires happened just before 5 p.m. in the area of Quimby Road and Sand Point Drive in San Jose.

According to the San Jose Fire Department, six structures across two residential blocks were involved in the fire. They added that the first arriving crews found heavy fire in one of the garages.

“While we were on scene initiating fire attack, neighborhood residents reported more fires starting in the area,” said San Jose Fire Department Captain Thomas Lo. “It appears embers were being cast from some of the trees, from the initial fire and were carried across the street into two separate locations across Quimby.”

Lo added that their crews worked hard in “difficult conditions,” including the hot weather and windy conditions. He added that crews were able to limit the damage to three homes. Residents in those homes were displaced.

San Jose fire said on social media that traffic was impacted in the area and they were asking the public to avoid the area.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
