A backhoe loaded onto a tractor-trailer struck a bridge support on the 91 Freeway in Corona during the morning commute on Monday, June 3, causing concrete to fall into the eastbound lanes where motorists hit the debris and suffered flat tires and other damage, authorities said.

The trouble happened around 5:30 a.m. at Buchanan Street, Caltrans spokesman Eric Dionne said. The concrete fell into the right two lanes and struck a car, said Officer Javier Navarro, a California Highway Patrol spokesman.

All lanes reopened around 11 a.m. No injuries were reported, Navarro said.

Caltrans crews could be seen examining the underside of the overpass, near the Riverside border, which remained open. Caltrans hopes to fix the damage this week at night when traffic is lighter, Dionne said.

Caltrans spokeswoman Jas Hampal said motorists can submit a claim for damage by calling 909-383-4351 or by sending an email to d8.claims@dot.ca.gov
