Boy killed in crash on Palomares Road in Castro Valley

CASTRO VALLEY – A boy was killed in a crash Monday afternoon in Castro Valley, authorities said.

The single-vehicle collision happened around 4:20 p.m. on Palomares Road near mile marker 4.3, California Highway Patrol Officer Jennifer Pabst said in a news release.

An investigation revealed a black Honda Accord was traveling northbound when it left the roadway and crashed into a power pole, Pabst said. The car then flipped into a tree.

A male juvenile passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, Pabst said.

The driver, meanwhile, was taken to an area hospital with major injuries.

An investigation is underway into the collision.
