Authorities seeking witnesses to L.A. County fatal hit-and-run

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is asking for witnesses to come forward after a pedestrian was killed in a fatal hit-and-run.

The incident occurred around 7:20 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Chico Avenue and Garvey Avenue in South El Monte.

Authorities say a light-colored sedan struck a pedestrian in a crosswalk and fled the scene. The victim died from their injuries.

No further details were provided about the deceased.

L.A. has seen a troubling increase in traffic-related deaths since 2023. Hit-and-run deaths in L.A. have nearly doubled in recent years, the data shows, from 56 in 2020 to 108 in 2023. As of April 6, there have been 31 fatal hit-and-runs in the city.
