After three separate shootings in Stockton left three people dead and three others injured, officials on Monday identified everyone killed.

With all three of these shootings, vehicles were involved, and it remains unknown if any or all of them are connected.

21-year-old man died in first shooting

The shootings happened roughly over the course of about 14 hours, the first one being around 12:42 a.m. at Wood Duck Circle and Quail Lakes Drive near Quail Lake, the Stockton Police Department said. Officers who were investigating a single-vehicle crash found a vehicle on top of a median with a man inside.

Police said that man, 21-year-old Boivae Martinez died at the scene and had at least one gunshot wound. There is no known motive or suspect description.

It is believed that the man was shot while driving, but it is unclear where he was coming from and where he was going. People who live in the neighborhood where the crash happened said the car hit a sign that was on the median. The words on the sign, which read “Wood Duck Circle,” appeared broken, with bricks scattered across the grass.

Second shooting might have involved police pursuit

Officers went to Astor Drive near Bedlow Drive off of Hammer Lane around 2:37 p.m. for a report of shots fired, police said. There, they found a 53-year-old man who had at least one gunshot wound and was taken to a nearby hospital.

Around the same time, police said the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office was chasing a vehicle near West Lane and East Alpine Avenue that might have been involved in the Astor Drive shooting, which was about three miles away.

Police said that the pursuit ended near California Street and East Harding Way, another mile and a half southwest of West Lane and East Alpine Avenue. At the end of the chase, officers took an 18-year-old male passenger, identified as David Perez, with a gunshot wound to a hospital where he later died. The driver and the other passenger were detained.

Two 19-year-old women, who were not in the vehicle that was being chased, took themselves to nearby hospitals. One of them was shot and is in critical condition, and the other might have been hit by shrapnel.

It is unclear how the 53-year-old man, Perez, the two women who took themselves to the hospital and the people detained are connected.

Third shooting reported less than an hour later

Officers were doing a welfare check on a 36-year-old man near East Jackson Street and South Wilson Way around 3:11 p.m., police said. The man was slumped over inside a vehicle and was found to have a gunshot wound.

Police declared the man dead at the scene and believe the wound was not self-inflicted. The man was identified as Brady Thornton, a Stockton resident.
