3 dead after shooting, standoff in Rancho Cordova

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. — Three people are dead after a shooting turned into a standoff Thursday in Rancho Cordova.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home in the 3300 block of Hartselle Way around 1:15 a.m. When they arrived, deputies found a woman by the front door with a gunshot wound. She died at the scene.

The suspected shooter barricaded himself inside the home. The standoff ended around 4:20 a.m. when deputies shot and killed the suspected shooter, according to Sgt. Amar Gandhi, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office.

Deputies also found a man dead inside the home. The relationship between the three people is unclear at this time and their identities haven’t been released.

The sheriff’s office is investigating the deadly shooting. The deputy-involved shooting is also under investigation and the law enforcement involved will be placed on paid administrative leave per the sheriff’s office’s policy.
