SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. — Two people are dead after a head-on crash in Sacramento County early Saturday morning.

The California Highway Patrol said the two-car crash was reported around 12:15 p.m. along Highway 160 at Sherman Island Road.

Police said a man driving a grey Nissan SUV crossed into the northbound lane of Highway 160 and crashed into a silver Lexus SUV. It’s not clear why the car went into the opposing lane.

The Nissan driver and a female passenger both died from their injuries. A three-month-old child and a five-year-old were taken to a Bay Area hospital with unknown injuries, according to police.

The driver of the Lexus had major injuries and was taken to an East Bay hospital.

Police said alcohol might have played a factor in the crash.
