THE SHOOTING REMAINS UNDER INVESTIGATION. RIGHT NOW, INVESTIGATORS ARE WORKING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT STARTED A FIRE AT A HOME IN NORTH HIGHLANDS. A MAN DIED IN THIS. THE FIRE HAPPENED JUST BEFORE EIGHT THIS MORNING AT A HOME ON GROUSE COURT. KCRA 3’S DENEEKA HILL JOINING US LIVE WITH THE VERY LATEST ON THE INVESTIGATION. DENEEKA YOU SPOKE WITH NEIGHBORS IN THIS NEIGHBORHOOD, WHAT DID THEY TELL YOU ABOUT THE MAN WHO DIED? YEAH. SO THEY TOLD ME THEY WEREN’T EXACTLY SURE IF THAT MAN ACTUALLY LIVED IN THIS HOME OR IF HE WAS VISITING. NOW, THEY DID TELL ME THEY’VE SEEN HIM AROUND HERE SEVERAL TIMES, AND THEY SAY HE SEEMED LIKE A GENUINELY NICE PERSON. BUT OVERALL THEY SAY THEY’RE JUST SAD TO LEARN THAT SOMEBODY DIED IN THIS FIRE AND NOW THEY’RE DOING WHAT THEY CAN TO TRY AND HELP. NOW TAKE A LOOK AT SOME OF THIS VIDEO THAT ONE OF THOSE NEIGHBORS SHARED WITH ME. YOU CAN SEE JUST HOW HEAVY THOSE FLAMES WERE. THE FIRE, AS YOU MENTIONED, BROKE OUT HERE ON THE HOME AT GROSS COURT JUST BEFORE 8:00 THIS MORNING. FIRE CREWS WENT INSIDE TO SEARCH THE HOME. THEY SAID THAT’S WHERE THEY FOUND THAT PERSON DEAD. THEY SAY FOUR PEOPLE WERE LIVING AT THE HOME, TWO INSIDE AND TWO IN THE BACKYARD. THE OTHER THREE DID MAKE IT OUT. I DID SPEAK BRIEFLY WITH THE OWNER OF THE HOME. HE DIDN’T WANT TO GO ON CAMERA, BUT DID EXPRESS HOW SAD THIS ALL IS. WE KNOW THAT THE AMERICAN RED CROSS IS NOW ASSISTING, AND HIS NEIGHBORS ARE ALSO STEPPING IN. I GAVE HIM SOME MONEY ANYWAY AND SOME CLOTHES SHOES BECAUSE THEY GET OUT. UH, NO SHOES, NO CLOTHES. IT’S WE HELP WHAT WE CAN ANYWAY, NO MATTER WHAT. WHO WAS THERE? UNFORTUNATELY, IN THIS HOME, THERE WAS NO WORKING SMOKE ALARMS. UM, HAD THERE BEEN WORKING SMOKE ALARMS, THERE POTENTIALLY COULD HAVE BEEN A DIFFERENT OUTCOME. NOW, IT’S NOT CLEAR EXACTLY THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE RIGHT NOW THAT REMAINS UNDER INVESTIGATION. AND FIRE OFFICIALS HAVE NOT SAID IF THIS HOME IS A TOTAL LOSS, BUT WE KNOW THAT PARTS OF THE HOME HAVE BEEN BOARDED UP AND THROUGHOUT THE DAY WE’VE SEEN SEVERAL PEOPLE COMING AND GOING, JUST TRYING TO TAKE OUT WHAT THEY CAN. AND THE VICTIM IN THIS HAVE YET TO BE IDENTIFIED HERE IN NORTH HIGHLANDS, DENEEKA HILL KCRA THREE NEWS. JUST A TRAGIC SITUATION. DENEEKA. THANK YOU. AND FIRE OFFICIALS SAY IT’S IMPORTANT TO CHECK YOUR SMOKE DETECTORS. AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH. MAKE SURE YOU CHANGE THE BATTERIES AT LEAST TWICE A YEAR. AND OF
