GRASS VALLEY, Calif. — A crash near State Highway 20 and the South Ponderosa overcrossing in Nevada County Saturday morning left a 35-year-old woman dead and a 35-year-old man seriously hurt.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the two were making a DoorDash delivery around 2:45 a.m. when the man fell asleep at the wheel.

The CHP said their car left the north side of the highway and hit a series of trees. Medics pronounced the woman dead at the scene and took the driver to a Roseville hospital with major injuries.

Investigators believe both the passenger and driver were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Neither drugs nor alcohol are considered as factors.

Officials are still investigating the crash and identified the car’s driver as 35-year-old Josiah Moncrieff of Grass Valley.
