1 critical after 2-car crash in Citrus Heights

CITRUS HEIGHTS, Calif. — One person was taken to the hospital in critical condition after an accident in Citrus Heights.

According to Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, a car hit a tree after a two-car crash. An unconscious victim had to be removed from the car and was taken to the hospital with significant injuries. Their status isn’t currently known. 

The crash itself was reported just after 5 p.m. in the area of Old Ranch Road and Oak Avenue. While the cause of the crash is still under investigation, police ruled out DUI as a factor.

Citrus Heights Police Department said the east and west lanes of Old Ranch Road will be temporarily closed due to the accident.

Police are asking people to take an alternate route.
