Melissa Jamero Herbito, Esq. is an attorney at J&Y Law with an international legal background spanning litigation, banking compliance, and personal injury law. Licensed in California since 2013, she brings a global perspective and a client-centered approach shaped by years of experience across multiple areas of practice.
Originally educated in the Philippines, Melissa earned her law degree from the University of San Carlos in 2004. She distinguished herself nationally on the Philippine Bar Examination, ranking Top 10 out of approximately 8,000 examines. She began her legal career at Sigyun Rein, one of the oldest and most established law firms in the Philippines, where she gained broad experience across labor law, civil litigation, contracts, and criminal matters.
After several years in private practice, Melissa transitioned into the corporate and financial sector, focusing on banking law, insurance law, and regulatory compliance. She later served as Assistant Vice President of Compliance at Standard Chartered Bank, where she worked within a multinational environment overseeing complex compliance and risk-related matters. Following her move to the United States, Melissa pursued admission to the California State Bar. Despite the challenges of adapting to a new legal system and one of the country’s most demanding bar examinations, she passed the California Bar on her first attempt in 2013.
Today, Melissa focuses her practice on personal injury law, where she is passionate about helping clients navigate some of the most difficult moments of their lives. She is known for her calm, analytical approach and her ability to simplify complicated legal concepts into clear, relatable guidance for clients. Her philosophy centers on advocacy, empathy, and ensuring every client fully understands their rights and options throughout the legal process.
Melissa’s diverse legal background allows her to approach cases with both strategic precision and compassion. Whether evaluating liability, analyzing complex facts, or guiding clients through uncertainty, she believes strong advocacy begins with listening carefully and asking the right questions.
Outside the office, Melissa enjoys spending time with her family, exploring new restaurants and cuisines, visiting nature destinations, and astronomy. She also has a passion for storytelling and theater, interests that continue to shape her communication style and connection with clients.
