Hector Ramon Delacruzjusto Arrested for DUI, Critically Injuring Mikey DellaVella
Hector Ramon Delacruzjusto, a 28-year-old Fullerton man, was charged Tuesday with multiple felony counts of driving under the influence after a three-vehicle crash left a prominent Los Angeles-based dance instructor, Mikey DellaVella, in intensive care with a traumatic brain injury, multiple skull and facial fractures, and brain bleeding.
Delacruzjusto was charged with DUI causing injury and DUI with a blood-alcohol level at or above .08% causing injury — both felonies — along with an infraction for running a red light, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
Prosecutors also allege sentencing enhancements for inflicting great bodily injury. Delacruzjusto pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Tuesday in the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana. His next court date is a pretrial hearing June 17 at the North Justice Center in Fullerton.
The crash occurred around 11:30 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of West Valencia Drive and South Brookhurst Road, according to Fullerton police. A 2024 Nissan traveling east on West Valencia Drive collided with a 2022 Mazda SUV heading south on South Brookhurst Road. The Mazda then struck a 2023 Tesla traveling north on South Brookhurst Road.
The driver of the Tesla was transported to a local hospital. Delacruzjusto’s blood-alcohol level was recorded at .10%, according to the criminal complaint — above California’s legal limit of .08%.
The Tesla driver was identified in a GoFundMe account as Mikey DellaVella, a hip-hop choreographer and dance instructor whose credits include Millennium Dance Complex, Movement Lifestyle, and Playground LA in Los Angeles. His fiancée and the mother of the couple’s 6-year-old son wrote in the account that DellaVella remained on a ventilator and under sedation as of Tuesday, still fighting for his recovery.
