[02-25-2026] Los Angeles County – Seven Pedestrians Injured After SUV Jumps Sidewalk in Downtown Los Angeles Flower District
Los Angeles, California — A violent mid-morning crash in the Flower District left seven pedestrians injured Tuesday after an SUV veered off the roadway and onto a sidewalk near San Julian Street and E. 8th Street in Downtown Los Angeles.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), the incident occurred at approximately 11:45 a.m., when the driver of an SUV turned onto E. 8th Street before suddenly crossing opposing lanes of traffic, mounting the sidewalk, and crashing into a tree outside a local flower shop.
Emergency responders confirmed that multiple pedestrians were struck during the collision, with two victims sustaining grave injuries and three others suffering minor injuries. In total, five individuals were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. The full extent of the victims’ injuries has not yet been disclosed.
Surveillance footage obtained from the scene shows the SUV traveling across traffic lanes before running directly onto the sidewalk and slamming into a tree in front of storefronts in the busy Flower District — an area known for heavy pedestrian foot traffic during business hours.
An employee from Lupita’s Flowers, identified as Alex Ortiz, described the moments immediately following the crash. Ortiz said he heard the impact from the back office, followed by a woman screaming for help. When he ran outside, he found a 13-year-old boy lying on the ground with what appeared to be a broken foot and visible back injuries.
Ortiz, who is also a pre-med student, used his basic medical training to assist the injured child while waiting for paramedics to arrive.
“His mom was very scared. I just tried to keep them calm,” Ortiz said. “It’s scary stuff.”
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) confirmed that the driver remained at the scene and was cooperative with authorities. Investigators are still working to determine whether drugs, alcohol, or a potential medical emergency contributed to the crash.
As of now, the incident remains under active investigation.

What Happens When More Than One Pedestrian Is Injured in a Car Accident?
When a car accident injures multiple pedestrians at the same time, each victim has the legal right to pursue compensation for their own injuries, medical expenses, lost income, and other damages. These types of incidents are often referred to as multi-claimant personal injury cases, and they can become legally complex due to shared liability limits and competing claims.
In most cases, the at-fault driver’s insurance policy will apply to all injured pedestrians. However, insurance policies typically have per-person and per-accident coverage limits. This means that while several individuals may be entitled to compensation, the total amount available through the driver’s policy may need to be divided among all victims — especially if the injuries are severe.
Because of this, it is critical for each injured party to speak with a qualified Los Angeles pedestrian accident lawyer as early as possible. An attorney can assess your damages independently and help ensure your claim is properly documented and prioritized during negotiations with the insurance company.
Additionally, working with a personal injury attorney Los Angeles victims trust can make a significant difference when multiple claims are involved. Legal counsel may be able to identify alternative sources of compensation — such as umbrella policies, third-party liability, or even uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage — depending on the circumstances of the crash.
If you or a loved one were injured in a pedestrian accident involving multiple victims, don’t wait to explore your legal options. J&Y Law is here to help you understand your rights and fight for the compensation you may be entitled to.
