[02-20-2026] Los Angeles County – Claudia Funk Identified as Victim in Fatal 14 Freeway Crash Involving Semi Truck
Santa Clarita, California – A 35-year-old woman who died after her vehicle became lodged beneath a semi truck trailer on the 14 Freeway has been identified as Claudia Funk, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The crash occurred around 12 p.m. Wednesday along the northbound 14 Freeway, between the 5/14 interchange and Newhall Avenue. Authorities said Funk was driving a Toyota Corolla when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle struck the rear of a parked semi truck trailer positioned on the right shoulder of the freeway.
The impact forced the Corolla underneath the trailer, leaving the car pinned beneath the large commercial vehicle. Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the collision was reported. Despite their efforts, Funk was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash, including why the semi truck was stopped on the shoulder and what factors may have contributed to the collision. No additional details have been released at this time.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Claudia Funk during this difficult time.
The incident caused significant disruption along the northbound lanes of the 14 Freeway as authorities worked to investigate and clear the scene.

Family Rights After a Fatal Truck Crash
Losing a loved one in a truck accident is a devastating experience, and California law allows certain surviving family members to pursue justice through a wrongful death claim. Typically, the individuals entitled to file a claim include the deceased person’s spouse, domestic partner, children, or other financially dependent relatives. In some cases, parents, stepchildren, or legal guardians may also be eligible to seek compensation depending on their relationship with the victim and level of financial dependency.
A qualified Los Angeles wrongful death attorney can help families understand their legal standing and guide them through the process of filing a claim. These claims are intended to recover damages such as funeral and burial expenses, loss of financial support, loss of companionship, and emotional suffering caused by the unexpected death.
Because truck accident cases often involve commercial carriers, corporate insurers, and multiple liable parties, working with an experienced truck accident attorney Los Angeles is essential. An attorney can investigate the crash, determine liability, and build a strong case to pursue the full compensation your family may be entitled to under California law.
