[02-17-2026] Los Angeles County – Solo Rollover Crash in Calabasas Ends With Good Samaritan Rescue
Calabasas, California – A Good Samaritan stepped in to help a driver Monday morning after a rollover crash along the U.S. Route 101 in Calabasas left a vehicle overturned on an embankment amid steady rainfall.
The crash occurred as downpours continued to soak Southern California, prompting emergency crews to remain on standby for weather-related incidents. Slick road conditions across the San Fernando Valley and surrounding areas led to multiple accidents that slowed traffic and created hazardous driving conditions.
Fernando Ramos Ramirez said he was traveling at approximately 40 mph on the 101 Freeway when his vehicle suddenly lost traction on the rain-slicked roadway.
“I wasn’t doing anything,” Ramirez said. “I was just driving calmly.”
According to Ramirez, the vehicle began swaying from side to side as the rain intensified. He gripped the steering wheel and chose not to brake, fearing it might worsen the skid. Moments later, the car spun out of control, rolled over, and landed on an embankment off the freeway.
Despite the dramatic crash, Ramirez was able to crawl out of the overturned vehicle without injuries.
Jackson Vieira, who witnessed the incident, immediately pulled over to assist.
“I saw him crawling out, so I pulled over and I went to check if there was anybody hurt,” Vieira said.
Vieira helped Ramirez retrieve his belongings from the flipped vehicle and stayed with him until first responders arrived.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the crash at approximately 11:09 a.m. Authorities said the driver was not trapped inside the vehicle and did not require medical attention. The scene was cleared within minutes.
“It felt like the right thing to do,” Vieira said. “Nobody had begun to help him yet and I wanted to make sure he was OK.”
Although shaken by the ordeal, Ramirez said he was grateful to walk away unharmed and thankful for Vieira’s quick response and compassion.
As storms continue to move through the region, officials urge drivers to slow down, allow extra travel time, and use caution on wet roadways.

Can You Recover Compensation After a Car Accident Caused by Bad Weather?
Yes — in many cases, you can still recover compensation after a car accident caused by bad weather. While rain, fog, or storms may contribute to a crash, weather alone is rarely the legal cause of the collision. Drivers are required to adjust their speed and driving behavior to road conditions. If someone fails to do so, they may still be held liable.
Bad Weather Does Not Automatically Eliminate Liability
California law requires drivers to operate their vehicles with reasonable care under the circumstances. That means slowing down during heavy rain, maintaining safe following distance, and avoiding sudden braking or unsafe lane changes on slick roads.
If another driver was speeding, following too closely, driving with worn tires, or otherwise acting negligently during bad weather, they can still be responsible for your injuries. In that situation, you may have a valid personal injury claim.
An experienced car accident lawyer in Calabasas can investigate the crash, review traffic reports, examine road conditions, and determine whether negligence — not just weather — caused the collision.
What If Both Drivers Share Fault?
California follows a comparative negligence system. This means you can still recover compensation even if you were partially at fault, but your recovery may be reduced by your percentage of responsibility.
For example, if you were found 20% at fault for driving too fast for conditions, you could still recover 80% of your total damages.
A skilled personal injury lawyer in Calabasas can help protect you from unfair blame and negotiate with insurance companies that may try to deny your claim by pointing to the weather.
What Compensation Can You Recover?
Depending on the circumstances, you may be entitled to compensation for:
- Medical expenses
- Lost wages
- Property damage
- Pain and suffering
- Future medical care
Insurance companies often argue that “the weather caused the crash” to avoid paying full compensation. Legal representation can make a significant difference in proving fault and maximizing your recovery.
