San Diego, California – A late-night hit-and-run crash in San Diego’s Emerald Hills neighborhood left a young man with severe injuries and claimed the life of his dog, authorities confirmed.
The collision occurred around 10 p.m. Saturday along the 5300 block of Roswell Street, near Hilltop Drive. According to police, the 22-year-old man was walking across the roadway with his dog in an unmarked crosswalk when a vehicle allegedly failed to stop at a posted stop sign and hit them.
Emergency responders from San Diego Fire-Rescue arrived quickly and provided medical assistance to the victim at the scene before transporting him to a nearby hospital. Officials reported that the man suffered multiple traumatic injuries, including fractures to both shins, a dislocated left ankle, and a fracture to his lower spine.
While police initially described the injuries as non-life-threatening, family members later stated that his condition was more serious than first indicated and that he had been admitted to intensive care.
Tragically, the dog did not survive the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
