[02-12-2026] Los Angeles County – Deadly Two-Car Rollover in Koreatown: One Driver Ejected
Los Angeles, California – A 31-year-old man lost his life in a late-night traffic accident at the intersection of Vermont Avenue and 1st Street in Koreatown, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Officers said the crash was reported around 10:21 p.m. Wednesday after California Highway Patrol personnel were alerted by passersby to a rollover collision at the location.
Early findings indicate that a car traveling north on Vermont Avenue struck another vehicle moving east on 1st Street. The force of the crash caused one of the cars to flip over.
The 31-year-old occupant of the second vehicle was thrown from the car and was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders.
The Los Angeles Fire Department stated that the fatal incident occurred along the 3500 block of West 1st Street and was handled as a major traffic collision.
Two additional people in the same vehicle — a 23-year-old driver and a 21-year-old passenger — were taken to a nearby hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.
Investigators have not yet determined whether excessive speed, alcohol, or drugs were factors. The case is still under investigation.

How Is Liability Determined in a Two-Car Crash When One Driver Dies?
Liability in a fatal two-car crash is determined by reviewing evidence that shows which driver acted negligently or broke traffic laws. Authorities and insurance investigators examine police reports, vehicle damage, scene photos, data recorders, traffic cameras, and witness statements. They also evaluate factors like right-of-way, speeding, distracted driving, and possible alcohol or drug involvement. In more complex cases, accident reconstruction specialists may be used to establish how the collision occurred.
When one driver dies, liability claims are typically handled through that driver’s estate and insurance coverage. Surviving victims may still pursue compensation, and the deceased driver’s family may also bring a claim if the other motorist was at fault. Under California comparative negligence rules, responsibility can be divided by percentage, which affects how damages are paid.
A Los Angeles car accident lawyer can investigate the crash, preserve key evidence, and deal with insurance companies. If the collision resulted in a death, a Los Angeles wrongful death attorney can help surviving family members pursue compensation.
