Police said their initial search did not locate the driver or vehicle. The Traffic Collision Investigation Unit assumed control of the case, assisted by the department’s Sideshow Response and Enforcement Unit. Investigators later identified a suspect vehicle and traced it across the Golden Gate to San Rafael.
The collision occurred near the Lower Nob Hill area and Lafayette Park, according to neighborhood reporting. Police radio traffic described the fleeing vehicle as a black SUV. The report described the victim as an adult man and said he remained publicly unidentified when the arrest was announced. Police did not disclose his age, where his trip began or where he was headed.
Investigators traveled to San Rafael on Thursday, Oct. 29, and found the vehicle with Daniel Llama, police said. San Rafael officers assisted as Llama was taken into custody without further incident. The vehicle was seized and towed to San Francisco for the continuing investigation. Police did not describe how investigators connected the SUV to the crash or say who owned it. The department announced no other arrests and did not report whether anyone else had been inside the vehicle.
