Possible Rideshare Driver Detained After Alleged Attempted Murder by Vehicle in Beverly Hills
An armed man suspected of an alleged attempting to murder a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy was taken into custody late Sunday night following an hours-long standoff with a SWAT team in Beverly Hills, authorities said.
The standoff unfolded at the intersection of Robertson Boulevard and Burton Way, on the border between Beverly Hills and the Los Angeles neighborhood of Beverly Grove — a busy commercial corridor adjacent to the Beverly Center shopping mall and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
How It Started
The incident began in the early morning hours of Sunday, May 3, 2026, in the community of Lennox, near Inglewood. Around 3 a.m., a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a driver in the area of Hawthorne Boulevard and West 104th Street. Authorities have not released the specific reason for the initial stop.
During the stop, deputies attempted to detain the driver. A struggle ensued, and as the suspect fled in his vehicle, he struck the deputy with the car, according to Deputy Tracy Koerner of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The deputy did not sustain major injuries.

Pursuit and Crash
At approximately 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Beverly Hills police received an automated alert from the city’s license plate recognition system flagging the suspect’s vehicle — a gray Ford pickup truck — within city limits.
Officers attempted a traffic stop, which led to a brief pursuit. The chase ended when the suspect’s vehicle collided with a second vehicle near the intersection of Burton Way and Robertson Boulevard, the Beverly Hills Police Department said in a statement.
Standoff and Hostage Situation
Following the crash, the suspect barricaded himself inside his vehicle with a female hostage, triggering a prolonged standoff with law enforcement.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department was called in around 3 p.m. to assist Beverly Hills police with the barricaded suspect. A SWAT team responded to the scene.
The standoff lasted approximately eight hours. The suspect released the female hostage around 11 p.m. Sunday, authorities said. The man was subsequently taken into custody, according to KABC.
