Mecca Crash Reported Near 66th Avenue
The collision was reported shortly before 1 p.m. Oct. 19. A Highway 86 crash account identified the vehicles as a white semi truck and a sedan, but the first public reports did not state which direction either vehicle was traveling before impact.
A preliminary California Highway Patrol incident log indicated that the semi truck may have entered the intersection against a red signal. That entry was an early account rather than a completed finding. The agency had not announced the traffic signal sequence, the point of impact or any citation when the collision was reported.
The public record therefore left the crash sequence unresolved. The initial collision details also said the cause remained under investigation, and authorities did not identify another contributing factor.

Both Injured People Taken to Hospital
Riverside County firefighters and medical crews responded to the scene. Ground ambulances transported both injured people to a hospital. Officials classified one person’s injuries as moderate and the other person’s injuries as minor, but they did not release further medical information.
Authorities did not say whether the hospitalized people were drivers, passengers or one person from each vehicle. The reports also did not connect either injury classification to the semi truck or sedan. No death was announced, and no later change in either person’s condition had been reported.
The identities of the drivers and injured people were not released. The semi truck’s registered owner, motor carrier and operator also were not named, leaving the commercial vehicle’s business connection unconfirmed in the initial reporting.
Preliminary Signal Report Under Review
The CHP log’s reference to a possible red-light violation supplied a specific issue for the traffic investigation, although the agency had not assigned fault. A final assessment would need to distinguish the first dispatch information from facts established through the completed investigation.
Because a semi truck was involved, the driver’s identity and the relationship among the driver, truck owner and any motor carrier are directly tied to determining who controlled the commercial vehicle at the time of the collision. None of those details had been established publicly, and the reports did not state whether the sedan carried anyone beyond its driver.
The latest confirmed information was that both injured people were taken from the scene by ambulance. CHP continued to investigate how the semi truck and sedan entered the Highway 86 intersection, and no official fault determination had been announced.
